Closers and grinders
A PGA Tour winner takes 18% of the purse, while 2nd place takes about 11% and 10th a little under 3%. So a handful of wins can outweigh years of good finishes, and the players at the top of this list made a large share of their fortune on the Sundays they won.
At the other end are the top-10 machines. Ryan Gerard earned 73% of his money finishing between 2nd and 10th, with just 5% from wins. For most players, the money comes from showing up near the top week after week, not from the trophies.
Finishes outside the top 10 still matter. For John Huh, 57% of career prize money came from finishing 11th or worse, the most of anyone here.
